Where Every Recipe Has a Story

In 1985, Wildsvleisgeregte en Kampvuurdisse by Leoné made its debut—and South African cooking culture was never quite the same again. At the time, it was the first book of its kind: a celebration of wild meat, traditional farm cooking, and meals prepared over open fires. It quickly earned its place as a treasured staple in farm kitchens across the country, and hunters proudly packed it alongside their gear on trips into the veld. Within just two years, more than 20,000 copies had been sold—a testament to its authenticity and timeless appeal.

As the years passed and new generations of cooks embraced this heritage, requests poured in for a refreshed, more user-friendly edition. In 2008, Leoné answered that call. Mother and son joined forces to reimagine the book—honouring its roots while adapting it for modern kitchens and campfires alike. Friends who shared the same passion for good food and the outdoors contributed, bringing fresh ideas, flavours, and expertise to the table.

Every recipe was carefully tested, cooked, tasted, hunted, and grilled—again and again—until it was just right. The result is a practical, beautifully crafted collection that makes wild meat cooking accessible, whether you’re at home or gathered around a crackling fire under the stars.

Today, Wildsvleisgeregte en Kampvuurdisse continues its legacy, now available in both Afrikaans and English—connecting generations through food, fire, and a shared love for the South African outdoors.
